History of the Vikings Mode of Clothing

Normally, we associate Vikings with dirt and a group of people who do not want to see bathing water anywhere close to them. Even though this is not entirely true, there is some truth in their mode of dressing. It has been said that the clothing that was initially worn by the Vikings is worn and is back in fashion. This document gives a history of the dressing code of the Vikings, this site.

The mode of dressing of the Vikings is dictated by their classes. The Vikings had three kinds of classes, including the Thralls, Karls and Jarls. The slaves made up the lower class known as Thrall. The Karls made the middle class. This group also contains the people who used to farm and take care of cattle. Even though this group was made up by people who owned land, it was not enough to get them into the next class. They hand large pieces of land and had enough money to live luxuriously.

The weather also played a very huge role when it comes to what the Vikings wear. Even though Scandinavia is still cold today, it was colder in the past. There was a shift of one percent of the average temperature. Therefore, it is the cold weather that also facilitated their mode of dressing. This is the reason as to why wearing of layers was essential to them as it prevented them from falling sick.

Women did not wear clothes that are very different from what they wear today. Linen was the material that the tailors used to make underdresses for women. The entire body was covered by their dresses. This was done to ensure that the women are fully protected from the cold weather. Wool was used to make the shorter dress that was worn on top of the long one. A belt was also worn by both genders as shown in this website. Their hats were made of wool, see here!.
